Matt and I tend to write off most weather warnings for New England as news hype, going through the motions of preparing for a power outage but never expecting the storms to fare as dramatically as they are projected.
And then Nemo not only delivered as projected but almost doubled the forecasted snowfall.
Friday, February 8th, the snow was pretty and minimal until that night the blizzard hit and dumped 40 inches in essentially 12 hours. Hamden received the storm record for inches of snow! Here is our photo documentation of this incredible storm and the resultant 'snowcation':
Friday, 10-11 PM, we watched a fire truck and its rescue truck get stuck in the snow in front of our house. We were alarmed that a fire truck was out during the peak of the storm, anxious that they wouldn't hit my car, worried about the fire men in the bitter cold, baffled at their numerous unsuccessful maneuvers, and confused about whether or not I should go offer them hot chocolate.
Saturday morning, we awoke to found we were officially 'snowed-in'.
View from our kitchen: Note the buried car across the street and submerged fence
Matt's workout for the day: 1 hour of shoveling a pathway from our garage to our front door- so we could open that door.
That was a lot of snow to shovel!
John was in heaven.
Running in the snow 'tunnel'
In character as a polar bear
Dying snow blue
Climbing snow mounds as Dad made a snow fort
In character as a snow leopard
And requesting dozens of times to be thrown into the soft, powdery snow
Love these shots!
"One more time"
Happy boy
We rounded out the snow days with movies and popcorn, hot chocolate, and even cookies.
It's taken a lot of practice to simmer down this fist-full approach.
Excavators and dump trucks worked round the clock to remove the snow for the next week
Yet, seven weeks later, a few little ice patches remain
Quite the exciting storm! Now, end of March, we are seriously ready for some sun.
